Welcome to Plain Dealing - Bossier Parish
Posted on April 29, 2002

Population: 1,078 One of the northernmost towns in Bossier Parish, Plain Dealing takes its name from the Gilmer family's "Plain Dealing Plantation" of the late 1800s. It's said that the Gilmers believed in treating everyone fairly and in a plain and honest manner.

That tradition continues in this town of 1,078 citizens, at the crossroads of highways 2 and 3. While the Town Council's five members must reside in a specific district, they are elected at-large. Even the town marshal is elected. The town's chief industry is the growing and harvesting of timber. Today, as for the last 100 years of its township, Plain Dealing residents enjoy country living. Many city folk come to town for the Plain Dealing's annual Dogwood Festival, held the first week in April. Near Plain Dealing is the village of Rocky Mount. Many pioneer settlers of Bossier Parish are buried there in the cemetery of Salem Baptist Church, the first church established in Bossier Parish.
