Population: 55,673 Bossier City, once a plantation ferry landing, is now one of the fastest growing cities in Louisiana. The population swelled by more than 60 percent from 1960 to 1990. Bossier City is located in east-central Bossier Parish along the east bank of the Red River, and is now home to over 55,000 residents.
The area's economic activity creates a fast-paced environment. Nationally known restaurants and retail stores have located in the area along with three riverboat casinos. Coupled with industrial growth, this has led to a diverse and continually growing job market. New housing construction and residential development north and south of Bossier City reflect a metropolitan area moving briskly into the new century. What's more, Bossier City's cost of living is lower than the national average, according to the American Chamber of Commerce Cost of Living Index. Bossier City has one of the lowest crime rates of any city in Louisiana, and was named the state's Cleanest City in both 1995 and 1996. Since 1933, Bossier City has been proud to share its community with Barksdale Air Force Base, home to the mighty Eighth Air Force of World War II distinction, and the 2nd Bomb Wing. As a major employer of Bossier citizens, Barksdale AFB has been a strong contributor to the area's pride and growth. |
