Welcome to Benton - Bossier Parish
Posted on April 29, 2002

Population: 2,047 Benton, Bossier Parish's oldest incorporated municipality, dates back to 1859. The town became the parish seat in 1890 when armed police jury members (county officials) removed the parish's records from nearby Bellevue to Benton.

While Benton's 2,047 citizens enjoy all the amenities of small-town living, the town is experiencing much growth and development. Only 10 miles north of Bossier City, the Benton vicinity has become a desirable residential locale. A new middle school is expected to be completed by 2000. Benton's proximity to the Black Bayou and Cypress Bayou reservoirs provides area residents recreational opportunities and all the pleasures of country living, with the convenience of easy and quick access to city offerings.
